Among the techniques used might be:
Swedish Massage refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. It involves the use of kneading, stroking, friction, tapping, and vibration and may provide relief from stiffness, numbness, pain, constipation, and other health problems.
The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Other possible benefits include stimulation of circulation, an increase in muscle tone, and a balance of the musculo-skeletal systems. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load.
Deep Tissue Therapeutic Massage targets the deep tissue of the fascia and muscles, referred to as connective tissues. Of the many types of massage, deep tissue focuses on the release of muscle tension and chronic knots.
Deep tissue massage can break up and eliminate scar tissue from previous injuries. A common problem is that stressed muscles can block nutrients and oxygen from getting to where they need to go, and this will cause inflammation that allows toxins to build up in your muscle tissue. The inflammation and toxins contribute to pain and stress. Deep Tissue Massage breaks up and releases the built-up toxins by loosening the muscles. With the toxins released, blood and oxygen can circulate as they should through one’s body. Being properly hydrated before you go to your massage appointment and drinking plenty of water after one of these massages is highly recommended.
The strokes used in Deep Tissue Massage are similar to those used in a Swedish Massage except more pressure is used and it uses cross grain strokes. is typically used to treat sports injuries and deeper structural imbalances often experienced by many athletes, and others who work in physically demanding or stressful jobs. Deep tissue massage will relieve achy, tight muscles, improve mobility and performance.
It can help resume activities sooner, enhance performance and help your muscles work more efficiently.
Myofascial Release is a form of bodywork that is manipulative in nature and seeks to rebalance the body by releasing tension in the fascia. Long, stretching strokes are utilized to release muscular tension. Myofascial Release is a manual therapy technique that is utilized to help relieve pain and tension that is due to injury or stress. It involves releasing and unwinding the fascia (connective tissue) that surrounds each muscle and interconnects all of the other internal parts of the body. This tissue layer, which connects every muscle, tendon, ligament, bone, and organ in our bodies, can store memories of physical trauma. Releasing these restrictions allows us to discharge recurring emotional as well as physical pain.
Sports Massage focuses on muscles relevant to the event. For athletes who train continuously, the goal is to enhance endurance, lessen the chance of injury and shorten the time needed to recover from an event.Sports Massage may utilize a variety of techniques such as classical Swedish Massage, trigger point therapy, and hydrotherapy. Prior to an athletic event, Sports Massage may be used with stretching in order to help athletes to loosen, warm and prepare their muscles so that their performance and endurance might be enhanced. Following an athletic event, Sports Massage may be used to relieve pain, prevent stiffness, and return the muscles back to their normal state. Sports Massage may also be used for injury rehabilitation.
Trigger Point Therapy is also known as Myotherapy or Neuromuscular Therapy and applies concentrated finger pressure to "trigger points" (painful irritated areas in muscles) to break cycles of spasm and pain. It appears that most muscular pains have a trigger point that causes the muscle to go into spasms. Trigger Point Therapy involves placing pressure on that trigger point so that the muscle can relax and the pain can be lessened.
Pressure is generally applied with fingers, knuckles, and elbows. This form of therapy is often followed by stretching the muscles. The basic idea is that the trigger point which is the source of the pain is not always where the patient feels the pain. The trigger point could be several inches away from the place where they feel the discomfort or pain. It is said that by applying pressure to the actual point of the source the practitioner in turn may be able to control the pain experienced.
Intraoral massage is a therapeutic treatment of the muscles and soft tissues of the cranium, mouth, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) working through the oral cavity.
By treating these deep muscles, the therapist can alleviate and even correct a variety of issues including, but not limited to:
*Migraine/Tension Headache
*Temporormandibular joint disorder (TMJD)
*Earaches/Ear drainage
*Tinnitus
*Sinus pressure/Frequent infections
*Facial nerve impingement
*Various digestive issues
*Dental procedure pain
This therapy is part of an integrative treatment plan discussed with your therapist for long term relief of symptoms. The therapist will always use gloves when working in the mouth and customize treatment according to patient’s needs and sensitivity.
Cupping is a technique used in traditional Chinese medicine for certain health conditions. Glass cups are placed on the skin with suction, which is believed to influence the flow of energy and blood in the body. Cupping is a safe and non-invasive. It is used by practitioners of Chinese medicine to treat colds, lung infections, and problems in the internal organs. It is also used to treat muscle and joint pain and spasms, particularly in the back. Cupping therapy is thought to stimulate blood circulation.
Cranio-Sacral Therapy is a natural rhythm created in each of us by the ebb and flow of cerebrospinal fluid around the brain and spinal cord. A trained Cranio-Sacral practitioner works with this rhythmic flow by applying gentle pressure on and around the head and neck. Headaches, earaches, blockages and sinus problems may be relieved by this therapy. Cranio-Sacral therapy is used as a preventative health measure against diseases and a wide range of medical discomforts associated with pain and dysfunction.
Foot Reflexology is an ancient Chinese technique that uses pressure point massage to restore the flow of energy throughout the entire body. By stimulating these reflexes with pressure and manipulation, nerve function and blood supply may be improved, which may alleviate stress and other health problems.
